Libra’s New Moon & its Inherent Grace

The Libra New Moon takes place at 17° 21 on Saturday, October 10th at 8:50 am Pacific and 11:50 am Eastern.

As I made my descent from the quaint mountain village in the Monashees, vibrant oranges and maroons burst from the trees, their leaves alight against the purple-tinged sky. Peaks donning their Autumnal garb rose in the distance as a single star shone just over the horizon. Pillowy clouds yawned across the heavens, as flashes of pink announced their arrival to all who were lucky enough to bear their witness.

This stunning backdrop etched itself in my mind, and certainly my heart, serving as evidence of the grace that is always present in some way, shape, or form, for those who choose to see it. Moments such as this aren’t the norm, but if they were, we would perhaps forget to notice their grandeur altogether. When we least expect it, reality offers us a reminder that we are privy to and part of a beauty that goes far beyond what our minds alone can fathom, reaching into the depths of our souls to capture us and prove to us that magic does exist, and it’s often simply in the here and now. It’s with us when we allow ourselves to perceive it.

Libra is no stranger to this kind of beauty. In fact, it’s a natural at seeking it, finding it, creating it, and honoring it, for it knows the unspoken language that moves our souls. As the archetype of the Artist, this is part of its currency, and it seems to find it when others cannot. The sign of the Scales needs this kind of experience, for it is soothed and stilled by expressions of the exquisite that inspire it in the core of itself. When bent out of shape, as can happen quite readily with the second of the Air signs, turning to the inherent grace woven into the fabric of reality is a great help, for it mollifies and softens what nothing else can.

As we begin a new cycle that asks us to attune ourselves to the innate beauty all around and deep within us, we are invited to a different way of engaging with life. We soften our edges to sense the quieter music that plays within all of reality. We open our hearts to feel the way it speaks through subtlety, its dance a rhythm that awakens something inside that we may have forgotten was there. Is it a sentence in a favorite piece of prose, or a poem that touches the growing tendrils of your very own being? Is it a painting that takes your breath away, or a piece of art that washes over you like a wave of love, causing your heart to nearly burst with sweetness? Is it a place in the forest that holds you with such tenderness you feel you could weep, or a spot on the bank of the river that soothes your soul in a way you didn’t even know you needed? Or perhaps something else that can only be sensed in just the way you feel it so that you truly know the auspicious nature of reality?

This Libra New Moon invites us to experiences such as these.

It wants us to know the sublime grace that is at the heart of all things.

Vesta and Saturn, both retrograde in the sign of Aries, oppose this New Moon, inviting us to reevaluate how we spend our time, energy, and attention—as well as whom we choose to spend these aspects of ourselves with. Libra is here to be deeply seen, fully felt, completely heard, and totally understood. If the people with whom it is spending its time are ones it feels drained by, misunderstood with, or who just flat out deplete it, now is the time for drawing a line to maintain the inner equanimity that is such an important resource for the archetype of the Best Friend and Lover.

Vesta supports how we tend to the sacred flame of our lives, and here, she asks that we be fierce in protecting our energy, especially if we’re in the habit of giving any part of ourselves away. Saturn loves a good boundary and asks that we integrally hold that which keeps us in tune with the greater rhythm of life—within us and around us—by stepping away from what doesn’t support our innate equilibrium. It also asks that we cut our losses in order to move forward with the grace that can and does always support us—but only when we let it. If we’ve been spending time with things that aren’t in alignment with our highest good, these planetary bodies are calling us on that, welcoming us to get clear on what is deserving of our precious life force. And because Libra needs relationships that have reciprocity at their core, this opposition serves to hold the line of ones that are mutually beneficial and supportive. This is a time of welcoming those with whom we feel most at home, and stepping away from those we don’t, period.

Jupiter sextiles this New Moon from Leo, reminding us that we expand into the most inspiring and inspired versions of ourselves when we have the aforementioned healthy boundaries in place, and when we welcome people into our lives who support this part of who we are. There are those who want us to shine, and we, them, and now is the time for this kind of cooperative exchange, one in which we both leave feeling brighter and more like ourselves. The ‘King of Gods’ is generous in his stance, and he asks that we show up as the luminous beings that we are and are here to be. He asks that we spend more time with those who see the part of us that others may not so that we may live into this inner shine readily and regularly. And eventually, we radiate this into the world because we’ve remembered who and what we are.

May this New Moon gift you with the grace that is always already dancing within you and all around you, and may you know it in the depths of your being. And for my Canadian friends celebrating this weekend, Happy Thanksgiving. Wishing you an auspicious and beautiful time.
