The Water-Bearer’s New Moon Makes its Mark in the Cosmos
Planets and stars shimmer in the night sky, their brilliance made even more apparent in the crisp, clear night and under the phase of the dark moon that approaches. Standing on the frozen ground and gazing heavenward, we’re given a glimpse of the magic that permeates all of life, from the most macrocosmic spaces to the most minuscule, as the sky unleashes its symphony of celestial bodies, all playing in spirited concert with one another.
With the Sun & Moon conjunct (this is what makes a New Moon) at about 10° in the sign of the Cup Carrier, they find themselves in good company, for Pluto and Mercury are also here, about 8° away. In other words, this New Moon is a bit of an Aquarian assemblage, and though these planets are not the ones visible in the sky at the moment, they are certainly making an impact on earth and those who happen to live here. The visible planets — Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and technically Neptune too — are also leaving some impressions, and in a way that somewhat softens Aquarius’ shock value, lending the capacity for cosmic connection and earthy grounding in the midst of all that is being shaken up.
The Aquarius New Moon takes place on Wednesday, January 29th in the wee hours of the morning. Aquarius is the Water-Bearer and the last air sign of the zodiac. Bringing the ability to view life from an expansive vantage point, one that I liken to seeing with the third eye open, it invites us to move beyond social conditioning to recognize that reality is much more than the societal confines we place upon it, and that the only way to claim our true freedom is to find this place of knowing within ourselves and our lives. For this reason, amongst others, Aquarius is known as the sign of genius with its inherent ability to go beyond all norms, not bothered in the slightest by their existence, and it instead chooses to march to a rhythm that is all its own, inevitably ushering society forward in ways it may not have even thought possible. Also known as the Cup Carrier, this energy encourages us to be moved by our own inner guidance system above all else, for the truth that lives within is worthy of being honored and upheld in the world. In fact, where Aquarius is involved, this truth must be upheld in the world; anything less is missing the point completely and leads to a life that isn’t actually worth living. Yet when we are able to move from this clear space within and bring it forth in our lives, we are fulfilling the Revolutionary’s purpose to align with what it knows to be true even if no one else agrees or understands. When Aquarius is present in the Cosmic play, this freedom must be fully claimed and embodied, its expression the driving force that illuminates our paths.
With this New Moon, we are being given an opportunity to know and embody our deepest truth in ways we have not yet. Mercury and Pluto act as allies in this, if we allow them to be, for Pluto always encourages us to reclaim our power from anything and everything that holds us captive. Whether this is a trauma we experienced thirty years ago or an epigenetic pattern that keeps us from knowing the truth of who we genuinely are, these facets of ourselves must be uncovered and transformed are we to be the shining beings we came to this planet to be. With Pluto in Aquarius for the next 19 years, we’re invited to look at anything and everything that is hiding within the story of, ‘isn’t it better just to fit in?’ or, ‘wouldn’t it be easier to pretend to be something I’m not?” or ‘when I follow my truth, it gets me into trouble or I’m persecuted for it, so I may as well just hide my real self so I don’t attract unnecessary attention.’ Pluto wants us to be so willing to face the truth of reality and of who we are that we are able to transform any and all misperceptions that have us clinging to a version of existence that keeps us ensnared in a life that isn’t really what our souls want. He wants us to look head on at all of the ways we’ve hidden from ourselves so that we can claim what is deeply, completely, fully true, and then to live it. No big deal.
Mercury’s tight conjunction with Pluto gives us the ability to perceive the truth of what the Lord of the Underworld & the Riches has to offer, even if it’s uncomfortable or shocking. As the only planet in the sky with an all-access pass to the entire Cosmos, Mercury always brings an invitation to a perceptual truth that carries insight and epiphany, one that opens up our awareness so much that we see life from a more radically clear viewpoint. In other words, we are being given the chance to recognize and integrate important facets of reality that have been hiding from us for years or even lifetimes so that we may be assisted in living our innate truth in all the ways that we can. While hiding is always an option, it will become less comfortable to do so in the months and years that follow.
Jupiter trines (120° angle) the New Moon from Gemini the Story-Teller, further encouraging us to expand our lens of reality and what we think we’re capable of, making room for our most important dreams and aspirations, saying ‘yes’ to them, and in so doing, saying ‘yes’ to ourselves. Important information may come to us that allows us to do just this, and if we open to it, the synchronicity of life becomes all the more available to us.
Venus, Saturn, and Neptune all sit within the sign of the Cosmic Dreamer, Pisces, with Venus and Neptune forming a tight conjunction here. They beckon us into the realms of intuition, cosmic connection, and the recognition that reality is, in fact, magical, and that the more we sense into and align ourselves with its infinite flow, the more fulfilled we become. This, and the more compassion we have access to, both for ourselves and others, and the more willing we are to dissolve parts of our lives that no longer hold true or are ready to be released so that a new vision can come into being.
Mars retrograde in Cancer echoes some of this watery energy and continues urging us to fiercely claim our innate capacity to heal through feeling, to allow our emotions to move through us with fluidity and grace, not holding on or clinging to them, but simply feeling their power as a vital piece of life, for without them, we would be devoid of the multi-faceted richness that is available to us as humans. Partaking in this life-enhancing play makes us more versatile beings who are available to life’s flow, able to show up for it with vulnerability and strength, grace and power, and all at the same time.
Uranus in Taurus encourages us to embody our most authentic selves, resourcing ourselves with practices that connect us with with our bodies, regulate our nervous systems, calm and soothe our energy, ground us in our connection with our amazing earth mother, and remind us of all the tools we have cultivated on the path of transformation and of claiming our truth. For no matter how far along technology gets, we are still living in our beautiful bodies, and they are always deserving of our attention and care. The more resourced we feel in this, the more whole we actually are, and the greater our capacity to meet life with presence and ingenuity.
On this Aquarian New Moon, may you know your deepest, truest self, and may you feel supported to live this truth in the world we share. May you transform all that keeps you hiding from yourself, supported to bring to life your deepest and most magnificent dreams. May you take the time to connect with the magic of Life, letting it guide you on your soul journey in only the ways that you can. May you trust your emotional process and your body, honoring these profoundy important facets of life.
Wishing you an amazing new cycle as we begin to emerge from the darker times and expand once more into lighter and brighter days.
