The Gemini New Moon, Saturn & Neptune in Aries, & a Pristine Era of Possibility
The New Moon falls at 6°5' Gemini on Monday, May 26th at 8:02pm PDT and 11:02pm EDT. The first new moon with both Saturn and Neptune in the sign of Aries, this will begin a new era of possibility...
Spring begins its shift to summer as life abounds all around, and green becomes the current backdrop of reality. All the while frogs croak, birds sing, bees buzz, and woodpeckers peck — hopefully, not your house! Ants march, butterflies float, hummingbirds whir, dogs and cat lounge, and humans — at least some of them — garden, relishing the full return of the sun’s warmth against their bare skin. It has been awhile!
Gemini Season is upon us, beginning with the new moon that hearkens its arrival. Conjunct its own ruler, Mercury, trine Pluto in Aquarius, and sextile Saturn and Neptune in Aries, this one is filled with a humming excitement that Gemini is truly known for. The first of Air signs, Gemini sings, or thinks and talks rather, itself into being, innately carrying an energy of effervescence with it as it does. Curiosity its currency, it wonders its way through life, seeking what is new and novel, fresh and varied, compelling and interesting, no matter where these prospects may lead. Rather than needing an answer to its infinite questions, Gemini instead prefers to let the questions be its guide, meandering wherever it might, in order to experience the diverse range of possibility that life holds. And if it can make itself available, quieting its mind at just the right time, it may actually receive the answer it seeks, but only for a moment or two before it’s onto the next!
I liken the energy of Gemini to a hummingbird whose wings are in constant motion, moving it through reality at a warp speed that others would generally consider mind-boggling at best. Its voracious appetite for life keeps it afloat as it searches for the nectar in its favorite flowers, as well as those it hasn’t yet tried, drinking this in delightedly before quickly moving on. Containing the essence of adbhuta, or wonderment and awe, Gemini uses its mind to explore life’s infinite flavors, wowed by all this reality holds in the way that a small child who’s just learning to interact with the world might be. And this is just as well because from an evolutionary perspective, it’s here to open to all of the potential that life contains in each and every moment, gathering experience to itself in order to welcome an insight here, an epiphany there. There’s never a dull moment for Gemini, unless, of course, it’s sitting quietly for too long, for this sign needs to keep its mind moving, allowing its interests to show it the way forward.
Gemini is here to be in constant conversation with reality in a way that would truly leave the rest of us quite daunted, and quite likely, exhausted. Yet it is enlivened by this conversation and the myriad of dialogues it has with all those who are able to indulge its need, picking up the information it seeks so that it can move onto the next thing, gathering figures and facts, material and particulars, along the way. This attitude of openness gets it far, as the more Gemini makes itself available to the grand teacher of Life, the more insight it gains. Yet again, it must choose to be present with what is happening right now in order to have the epiphany that is so important to its being, lest it let the five competing thoughts it’s having pull it into all five directions simultaneously! Were this to happen, overwhelm, chaos, and freeze mode would ensue, catapulting Gemini into the shadow version of itself, unable to perceive much at all until it finds regulation within itself again.
Synchronicity abounds when Gemini is involved, as when it does open itself to life’s magical flow, it seems to call forth a myriad of serendipitous occurrences that remind it of just how exhilarating this reality can be. Rather than thinking all of the time, talking all of the time, thinking more, then talking even more, Gemini is also here to learn to listen and perceive of the deeper meaning within reality, paying attention to the signs and symbols it’s presented with, gaining access to an understanding that invites a perceptual frame shift over and again. As it expands its antennae into the ether, it makes itself available to the memos the universe is trying to communicate, be it in the form of a number on the clock that keeps appearing, a message from its friends or chat thread that keeps showing up, or a book title that won’t quit materializing in its life in one form or another. Once the perception shift has taken place, and Gemini is truly in tune with reality, it’s here to transmit its messages into the universe once again, adding its interesting and colorful voice into the collective.
We obviously live in an era of information, with so much available right at our fingertips. This is revolutionary to most of us even now, our human brains and beings not quite having made the leap to this epic way of existing. Yet the conversation we are also meant to be having is one that can’t be answered by Chat GPT, Google, or the internet in general — it must be had with reality itself. It’s not that these things are inherently bad, of course. It’s just that if we’re constantly in an over-stimulated part of our minds, as tends to be the case these days, then we actually miss out on a larger, perhaps more pressing point that is trying to be made, one that requires our being present for it rather than on a constant hunt for the kind of knowledge that can only be found through the thinking mind. As mentioned, the perceiving mind wants to be made part of this conversation too, and when we open to this possibility, we get a more full and real picture and memo, one that invites a true revelation that stays with us for more than just a few moments, but possibly, for good.
Mercury, the messenger god who governs our perceptual abilities, is conjunct this New Moon, welcoming even more opportunities for conceptual shifting and straight up epiphany. As the only god with an all-access pass to every part of the Cosmos, including the land of the Underworld, he is meant to bring back insight and understanding from the depths of our own psycho-spiritual and psycho-emotional experiences, and this becomes even more important with Pluto, the Lord of the Riches & the Underworld, trining the New Moon from Aquarius. Still in a study of what is meant to be unearthed and retrieved from this rich terrain, Hermes helps us remember what we had forgotten long ago, only to live it into being in the present, weaving the pieces of who we once were and have always been back into our current, present selves. No longer meant to stay in the shadows, our most authentic selves must be called forth, embodied, and lived out loud, right now, in the present. The future version of ourselves is calling us into the present, if only so that we can now be the people we came here to be.
Neptune and Saturn, conjunct one another and sextile Mercury (and thus the New Moon) from Aries, are reminding us that action is required if we’re meant to bring a new reality into being. While Gemini may give us the perception needed to “get the memo,” Aries encourages us to initiate the change necessary to make what we know must be into the world of shape and form. Neptune always carries with it our intuitive capacity, serving to remind us of the bigger, more magical reality that lies at the heart of all things and certainly at the core of our own beings. We must dissolve facets of who we will never be again to firmly root ourselves in the lives we are ushering forth, using Saturn’s fortitude and solidity to make it so. As we close the door to old realities that served us once but cannot do so again, the doors themselves dissolve, and we step through new ones that have only just materialized because we finally willed them into being. Old behaviors must be relinquished, hard work must be done, and we are the ones who can do it — but we can do so with joy in our hearts, curiosity in our minds, and an openness to life’s infinite potential in our spirits. And with these virtues, anything becomes possible, even the things we may not have dreamed of until now.
What is the conversation reality is inviting you to in this moment? How can you open yourself to the insight that is waiting for you to receive it? What might help you do this? What parts of yourself are you unearthing, integrating, and weaving into your being for once and for all, and how can you bring this into the world of shape and form? Which facets of your experience are ready to be initiated into being? How can you commit to seeing this process through, one step at a time?
May this New Moon bring just the shifts that you need, and may you answer in only the uniquely beautiful ways that you can.
