Inspiration on the Mat: The Art of Personal Practice at The Yoga Loft in Kamloops, BC

This weekend will be an exploration of the facets that make up a balanced, enlivening, and nourishing yoga practice. We’ll spend time creating skillful and empowering sequences that maintain and expand a healthy practice; employ the use of yogic deities to inspire and give focus; integrate breath work and meditation to balance; and use reliable bio-mechanics to enhance the beneficial nature of the movement and postures. Each morning session will include a pinnacle posture or two, and efficient means of preparing the body, mind, and spirit to work toward these postures. Each afternoon session will be more “lab-oriented”, inviting students to work with handouts and each other to create sequences that inspire them to hone and expand their craft.

Friday Eve:: Ground & Nurture
A celebration of the New Moon Eclipse in Cancer, this class will be deeply regenerative and nurturing, welcoming participants into the cave of their hearts. Standing postures, hip-openers, forward folds, and twists will be the basis for this practice. A Lakshmi sadhana will close out the session.

Saturday AM:: Strengthen & Open
This session will continue the lunar exploration, balancing its ease with fierce grace that inspires practitioners to their most full expressions of postures. While drawing on myths brought to life in the modern world, this workshop will include standing postures, inversions, heart-openers, and countering postures to quiet and balance. Students will effectively and therapeutically deepen their practices, working with the whole body to create transformation from within.

Saturday PM:: Refine & Hone
This session will give participants tools for creating skillful yoga sequences based on key actions in the body. Students will explore fundamental principles for strengthening and opening the body efficiently and playfully, then work with materials to envision and practice regenerative progressions of postures.

Sunday AM:: Illuminate & Shine
This class will be a celebration of summer and its brilliance. Tejas, or luminosity, is an aspect of each person’s innermost nature, and this radiance is alive in each and every moment. Join us for a yoga celebration that explores opening to the inherent effulgence that is always available, but perhaps more easily felt in mid-summer. This potpourri practice will be dynamic and balancing, giving participants tools to be fully centered and open to the magic that is available in each moment, including hand-balances, inversions, and backbends.

Sunday PM:: Hone & Refine
This session will give participants access to tools for creating skillful yoga sequences based on key actions in the body. Students will explore fundamental principles for strengthening and opening the body efficiently and playfully, then work with materials to envision and practice regenerative progressions of postures.
